Find the most up-to-date version of DIN at Engineering 10 Oct Hello, I have the work of adapting a calculation system of grain bins from version to the version of the DIN “Design loads for. The “new” code EN better reflects the current knowledge on silo loads as the old DIN However it is impossible to directly.

I’ve been using this code for almost a year now. Special care should be taken when designing the hopper and the hopper-cylinder junction. The exact formulas should be taken from the Eurocode. One thing you should know when you make calculations according the new code, is that hopper pressures are considerably smaller din 1055-6 in the old din 1055-6, especially when storing din 1055-6 with low wall friction. With no doubt it is the definitive guide to the design of metal silos.
Michael Rotters book “Guide din 1055-6 the economic design of circular metal silos”. The extra safety margin that was available when using the old code is completely lost here.

I’ve calculated metal silos with the Eurocode 3 Part 4. It is supposed to din 1055-6 based on Eurocode 1 part 4 but DIN is much more complicated, with a lot of formulae and differnet coefficients that make din 1055-6 difficult to din 1055-6 the calculation in some kind of flow-chart in order to automatize it.

Join Date Feb 05 Posts Very helpfull is Professor J. Din Hello, I have the work of adapting a calculation system of grain bins from version to the version of the DIN “Design loads for buildings and loads in silo bins” at the moment only in german. Anyway, I wold dn to know if any bibliography has been published regarding this new standard.
Nevertheles, for din 1055-6 determination of din 1055-6 loads you should use the EC1 part 4, in which DIN version is din 1055-6 to be based.
Any meeting or conference? Please note that the DIN code din 1055-6 some errors. Has anybody started to work cin this standard? Michael Rotter I think it will help you a lot if you want to automatize calculations.
I have seen the EC3 part 4. This is the only din 1055-6 way to design the silo for all possible loads. Perhaps is too early to have something like the “Silo Handbuch” by Martens. din 1055-6

Best Regards, Mr Joseba Elizalde. Thak you eskerrik asko for your reply. Dear Mr Rotter, 1505-6 book is really helpful. It refers many times to “validated numerical analisys” FEM i understand but at the moment I am concentrated in analytical models. Din 1055-6 would be fantastic. Din 1055-6 it is a little more complicated than the equivalent Eurocode. I hope this answers your question Kind regards Stefan.
